About Lorenzo's Woodworks
Birdhouse Artisan Lorenzo Padilla
Beginnings of a Texan Artist
Birdhouse artist, Lorenzo Padilla, has lived in Houston, Texas for over 25 years. While his original field of work was accounting, his true passion has always been woodworking. However, when accounting failed to add up, he became more serious with his wood crafts, and after experimenting with various forms of woodworking, he soon saw that birdhouses were in great demand.
Upon this discovery roughly 20 years ago, he developed his own style of rustic birdhouses. These birdhouses became increasingly popular, and he soon began showing his work in local arts and craft shows.
Birdhouses at Arts and Crafts Shows
After some years of being a local artist, he began traveling to other Arts and Crafts shows, including the Yellow Daisy Festival in Atlanta, Georgia, the Nutcracker Market in Houston, Texas, the Arts and Crafts Festival in Fairhope, Alabama, and many others. Finally, these handcrafted birdhouses became so popular that three years ago, he made the decision to begin an enterprise with them.
His production has increased, and he now ships to anywhere in the United States, Canada, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The Handcrafted Birdhouses
Lorenzo Padillo's workshop is now a buzzing place, with "a million things to do." Making each birdhouse is a long process from designing, to assembling the structure, to painting the finished product. Yet in the midst of all this, there is an air of camaraderie among the employees, among whom are his parents who mix the custom paints and stains.
Unique Rustic Birdhouses
Lorenzo's goal has always been to be innovative so that every piece is fresh, creative, and different from anything his customers have seen before. Not only that, but every birdhouse is Green--made with recycled materials because he has chosen to use salvaged materials rather than new wood. Each birdhouse is a treasure because each one is unique; even the production birdhouses are each done by hand so that there are no two alike. Inspirations for Lorenzo's birdhouses come from a variety of sources, some of which include the French Quarter of New Orleans, old courthouses, houses, etc. These antique-looking birdhouses contain many architectural elemnts found in centuries-old structures and include motifs from 14th century France, Wales, and Ireland. Another one of Lorenzo Padilla's trademarks is the bright and vivid colors used, the most popular of which are red, white, green, yellow, and turquoise. These birdhouses may be placed inside or out, although the majority of customers prefer to place thim inside because of how beautiful they are.
Above all, Lorenzo is proud to declare that all of his artwork is handcrafted in Texas, USA, and each piece of work is branded with his trademark emblem.
